MAX FRINTROP – VORSTELLUNGSRAUM

With the exhibition „Vorstellungsraum,“ a comprehensive solo exhibition of Max Frintrop’s work is being realized in his hometown of Düsseldorf for the first time. Frintrop is deeply connected to the Düsseldorf art scene, having completed his studies at the Kunstakademie as a master student of Albert Oehlen and developed his artistic environment here; at the same time, his work now enjoys an international presence.
Frintrop primarily works with large-scale abstract paintings in which paint, ink, and pigments transform into multi-layered, deep-spatial pictorial worlds. His works emerge from a direct engagement with material, movement, and color—floating between intuition and deliberate placement. In the process, his painting develops an intense presence and continually generates new spatial effects.
For the exhibition at Bilker Bunker, alongside large-format pieces, smaller works will also be on display, offering a different, more focused approach to his painting. Particularly exciting is the encounter between his works and the architecture and materiality of the bunker: painting and location enter into a direct dialogue, opening up new perspectives on space and perception.
